BIBO abstracted the functional principle of Sphagnaceae moss to develop the Sphandable Skin System (SSS), a building skin that responds to multiple temperature changes, unlike traditional building facades. This skin system can be adapted to a building in different ways.

SSS is able to regulate temperature via air flow, thermal mass management  and evapotranspiration, given its capacity to contract and expand. It also has the capability to harvest stormwater and to become a biodiverse green facade because as the articulated modules can create plant-growing pockets.

SPHANDABLE SKIN

Aluminum: external layer with high conductivity that allows radiation to enter

The dynamic structure is covered with absorbing materials that allow capillarity and evaporation.

Its ability to contract and expand controls air flow that cools down the water and reduces temperature

MATERIAL AND FORMAL TEST

Using an infrared lamp, we run the test on three different highly conductive  materials to measure which was the best option to use in the external layer of SSS.
